Yvonne Salter Thompson passed away on Dec. 16, 2013, at Highland Home in Ridgeland.
A private graveside services will be held at Cedar Lawn Cemetery at a future date.
Yvonne was a native of Neshoba County and a longtime resident of Philadelphia. Her parents were the late Albert J. Salter and Ollie Walker Salter, pioneer citizens of Philadelphia and Neshoba County.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Thompson.
Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother and was very civic minded; she helped to found and served in the Boy Scouts of America program in Philadelphia for many years. She also was a supporter of the Philadelphia High School band as well as the PTA.
She was a life time member of and active in various capacities of the First Baptist Church in Philadelphia working in multiple youth leadership roles. She helped organize the Amica Sunday School Class. Yvonne was a charter member of the Futura Club of Philadelphia.
She was a music lover, an avid reader and loved to travel, especially with her family.
Survivors include two sons; Charles Allen Thompson of West End, N.C. and Greg Salter Thompson of Madison; one daughter, Janice Lynn Thompson of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, love offerings may be made to the First Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland is assisting with arrangements.
