Services for Winford T. Burkes were held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Sharp and Dr. Dan Howard officiating. Burial followed in Old Pearl Valley Cemetery in Neshoba County. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burkes, 86, of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at his home.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County. Mr. Burkes was a member of Old Pearl Valley Baptist Church. He was a cattle farmer and worked for more than 40 years as a Riverboat Captain before retiring.

Survivors include his wife, Roma June Burkes of Philadelphia; sons, Robert Burkes and his wife, Gloria of Philadelphia and Marty Burkes and his wife, Alisa of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Robin Burkes Parker of Wesson, Sam Burkes of Meridian and Chais Burkes of Philadelphia; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Burkes and his wife, Ann of Brandon, Waussie Burkes and his wife, Sue of Brandon and Johnny Burkes and his wife, Carol of Gonzales, La.; and a special caregiver, Shelia Lovern.

Mr. Burkes was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maleiah Burkes.

Pallbearers were Kent Clark, Johnny Marshall, Clint Marshall, Tommy Barrett, Tony Lewis, Mike Nance, Ronnie Jenkins, and Keith Agent. Honorary pallbearers were Wydell Clark and Keith Lillis.
