Robert H. 'Van' Mitchell

Robert H. "Van" Mitchell, 60, of Fort Myers, Fla. died on Nov. 16, 2012, at his residence. He was born on May 2, 1952, in Cordova, Ala., a child of Hugh and Bobbie Nell (Gilbert) Mitchell.
Van received his BA from Mississippi College and his Masters in Education from Mississippi State. A resident of Fort Myers since 1991, he was a Math teacher for the Lee County School District for the past 21 years. He started at the Sanibel and Edison Park Elementary Schools; then taught at Colonial and Littleton Elementary Schools before going to Three Oaks Middle School 18 years ago.
He was a member of the McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers, where he was an active member of the choir.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda Gail (Elliott) Mitchell, his children, Robbie Mitchell Jimmerson of Elberta, Ala., Elliott Van Mitchell of Gainesville, FL and Trace Evan Mitchell of Fort Myers, Fla., his grandson, Holden Price Crook, his mother, Bobbie Mitchell Cook of Conehatta, Miss., his sister, Kawanna Mitchell Malone of Jackson, Miss..
A Memorial Service will be held on Dec. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Conehatta Baptist Church, Conehatta, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, PO Box 23827, Tampa, FL 33633-1622. Friends may sign the guest book at www.horizon funerals.com.
