Services for The Rev. Lee Brown Barrier were held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. from North Bend United Pentecostal Church. Burial followed in North Bend Pentecostal Cemetery with military honors. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bro. Barrier, 86, passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Anderson Hospital.

The last of nine siblings, he was born to Lee and Martha Jane (Jenny) Copeland Barrier on Nov. 27, 1927. He was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County.

He served two years in the United States Navy, being honorably discharged Feb. 27, 1948.

On April 13, 1951, he married Mattie Sue Crosby, who died in 1990. On May 1, 1992, he married Bessie Wright Holland, who died in 2010.

Bro. Barrier began preaching in 1954 and assumed the pastorate of North Bend United Pentecostal Church, where he remained until 1972, when he was elected pastor of New Zion United Pentecostal Church in the Fork Community. He remained there until his retirement at the end of 2000.

In addition to ministering, Bro. Barrier enjoyed carpentry, farming, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by two sisters: Audie Johnson and Arlie Martin; and by six brothers: T.J., Oma, Willis, Erman, Onan, and Alton.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Linda and her husband, Rev. Kenneth Rockco, of Foxworth; his granddaughter, Marilyn, and her husband, Rev. Darrin Powell, and their children: Darra, Darrin Wesley, and Drew Paul; his grandson, James Rockco, and his wife, Kristi, and their children: Dakota, Daxton, Dawson and DaKenna, all of Jayess; his son, Leonard, of Philadelphia; and his rat terrier, Sally Ann.

Bro Brown is also loved and missed by his nieces and nephews, his cousins, and his extended family and, especially, by his church family.
