It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Charles Luke announces his departure from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian, MS.  This came after a long battle with multiple myeloma and other complications.

Services were held Monday, August 27, 2018, at Coye Assembly of God Church in Preston with Rev. Lawrence Pool and Rev. Ryan Farmer officiating.   Burial followed in the church cemetery.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Winston County on May 19, 1949.  He made a career out of serving in the Mississippi National Guard.  He served in Iraq during 2003-2004.  He retired from the Army in 2009 after 38 years of service.  Many from the Guard called him Joe, while most from the community called him Charles or Charlie.  To family, he was Poppy, which was the only thing he loved more than being a dad.  Poppy loved his family, he loved to fish, and he loved to watch the Nanih Waiya Warriors baseball team.  He was also a member of Coye Assembly of God in Preston.

Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty years, Wanda Kay Luke of Preston; daughter, Karla (Justin) Chandler of Preston; son, Shawn (Brittney) Luke of Louisville;  grandchildren, Lauren (Trey) Whitehead and Morgan Luke of Louisville, Hunter (Harlie) Luke of DeKalb, Jade and J.D. Chandler of Preston;  great-grandchildren, Charleigh Whitehead, Olivia Crapps, and Cullum Luke;  mother, Ann Baughman;  sister, Lesia (Olen) Boswell;  mother-in-law, Willow Dean Warren;  sisters-in-law, Kathy Luke, Monica (Danny) Edwards, and Pam Stokes; brother-in-law, Gully (Georgia) Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Odie Luke; brother, Wayne Luke; and father-in-law, J.C. Warren.
