Services for Joe Akins were held Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev. Dennis Duvall officiated Burial followed in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Akins, 76, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.

He was born and reared in the Fork community of Neshoba County and had made his home in Philadelphia for the past 40 years. Mr. Akins was a member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church. He was a retired auto mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Akins of Philadelphia; daughters, Carolyn Thaggard of Willis, Texas and Sherry Akins of Marietta, Ga.; son, Gary Phillips Akins of Philadelphia; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Illene McGee and Mary Sullivan, both of Philadelphia.

Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Peebles and Clara Johnson; and brothers, Perry Akins, W.H. "Dub" Akins and Carroll Akins.
