James Melvin Crosby, 86, passed away Tues. Feb. 28, 2017 at his home in Brandon, Miss.

 Visitation was held on Friday, March 3, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Miss. and on Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Brandon, Miss.

Funeral Services were at 1p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Brandon, Miss., with burial in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, Miss.

Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth and Rev. Bill Poole officiated the services.

 Pallbearers were Steve Coke, Sidney Coke, Kenny Havard, David Hopper, Carson Hopper and David Harroff. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Joy Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church in Brandon, Miss.

Mr. Crosby was born in Philadelphia, Miss., and has been a longtime resident of Rankin County, Miss.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brandon, Miss.

Mr. Crosby served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On his 21st birthday he was fighting for his country during the battle of Heartbreak Ridge. Mr. Crosby enjoyed working in his garden and loved to go hunting and fishing.

 He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara Crosby; daughter, Kay Phillips (Joe); son, Brad Crosby (Kim); daughter in law, Gaye Crosby; sister, Rose Alford; brother, Ray Crosby; eight grandchildren, Joseph Crosby (Allison), Jase Phillips, Cassie Crosby, Tyler Anderson, Brittany Crosby, Bailey Crosby, Braden Mai Crosby, Brady Crosby and one great-grandchild, Ethan Phillips.

Mr. Crosby is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Woodard Crosby and Vera Lane Crosby; son, Jim Crosby; four sisters and two brothers.
