Graveside services for Howard Earl Smith were held Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery.

The Rev. Wayne Hill and the Rev. James Milner officiated. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at home.

He was born and reared in Leake County but moved to Philadelphia early in life. Mr. Smith was a member of Beacon Street Baptist Church where he served as a longtime deacon and Sunday School director. He was retired manager of Shippers Express Truck Lines at the Philadelphia office.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mooney Smith and daughter, Betty Smith, both of Philadelphia; one grandson; one great-grandson and brother, Jim Moore of Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Virgie Smith and brother, Wilburn Smith.

Pallbearers were Mack Jones, Raymond Bradley, Forrest Bridges, Brent Smith, Jason Blair and Robert Barham
