Services for Harold Bates were held Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 3 p. m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vernell Daniels officiating. Burial followed in Cooks Chapel Cemetery with McClain-Hays Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bates, 84, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County. He was a retired truck driver. Mr. Bates was a member of East Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Gray Bates; sons, Jim Bates (Judy), Stan Bates (Barbara), all of Philadelphia; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Edwards (David) of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Mandy, Bonnie, Kelli, Gray, Jonathan, Chris and Justin; 17 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Shayla, Keaton, Maddie, Zach, Sadie Kate, Noah, Ella, Sadie, Baylor, Caiden, Ashton, Harley Grace, Maggie, Max, Jackson and Abigail.

Pallbearers were Justin Long, Bart King, Gray Edwards, Ashton Edwards, Daniel Champion and Robbie York.
