Gerald Allen “Boots” Howell was remembered this week as a great storyteller, musician and inventor and for his stance against the Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s.

Services for Howell, 94, will be Saturday at 4 p.m. from St. Francis Episcopal Church, which he was instrumental in establishing in 1964.

    PHILADELPHIA-Services for Mr. Charlie McClain were held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Caviness and Dr. Jim Shull officiating.  

    Burial followed in Cedarlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
  • Sammy Morris Gully
    Sammy Morris Gully, 76, died peacefully in his home on Jan. 11, 2017, in Jacksonville N.C.

    A native of Neshoba County, Miss., he was born on July 23, 1940, to the late James and Clarkie Gully.
  • Louise F. Traywick
    Funeral services for Ms. Louise F. Traywick were held 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. Jack Foster and Rev. David Richardson officiating.

    Interment was in Chilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clanton, Ala. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge.
  • Hazel Marie Brown Allen
    Hazel Marie Brown Allen, 95, passed away quietly and peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017.

    Services were held at First United Methodist Church in Philadelphia, Miss., at 2 p.m. with Rev. Chris Young officiating.  Burial was in Cedarlawn Cemetery.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
  • Services for Ms. Serena Swiney Tubby were at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Pearl River Facility Building with burial in the Pearl River Community Cemetery.

    Visitation began at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at the Pearl River Facility Building. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
  • Services for Harold Brant Tubby were at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.

    Visitation began at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at the home of Janice McMillian, 147 Tucker Cut Off Road.
  • Services for Robert Lee Farmer will be at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Standing Pine Facility Building with burial in the Choctaw Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Visitation began at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at his home, 220 Pine Road, Carthage. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
  • Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Earl Atkinson were  held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. Gene Higginbotham and Rev. John E. Stephens officiating.

    Interment was in Salem Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was from  4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017,  at John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services.
  • Services for Frank Richardson were at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

    Mr. Richardson, 96, of Union died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at his residence.  

    Visitation was from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at the church. Milling Funeral Home of Union was in charge of arrangements.  

  • Graveside services for Mrs. Annie Catherine Kelley Lawson of Eros, La., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, La.  

    Burial will be in the cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home West Monroe.
