Gerald Allen “Boots” Howell was remembered this week as a great storyteller, musician and inventor and for his stance against the Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s.

Services for Howell, 94, will be Saturday at 4 p.m. from St. Francis Episcopal Church, which he was instrumental in establishing in 1964.
  • Mrs. Mary Faye Blackwell
    Services for Mrs. Mary Faye Blackwell, age 85, of Hattiesburg, were held Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.  Burial followed in the Roseland Park Cemetery.

    Mrs. Blackwell was a devoted member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and dedicated 31 years to teaching elementary school, mostly in the Oak Grove Schools.
  •  Graveside services for infant Jonathan Michael Pugh were Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 5 p.m. from Hope Cemetery in Neshoba County with Rev. Dennis Duvall officiating.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Infant Pugh died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at University Medical Center in Jackson.
  • Services for Billy Glenn Chesney will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. from Smith Chapel Community Church in Neshoba County with Bro. Sheldon Fox and Rev. Ricky Aldridge officiating.  Burial will follow in Hester Cemetery.    

    McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
  • Services for Mrs. Bernice L. Wilson will be on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Mars Hill Church of God in Christ with Pastor Alphonso Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Beck Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Wilson, 84, died on Monday, April 17, 2017, at Neshoba County Nursing Home.
  • Services for Budie Huston Jenkins were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. John Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery.

    Mr. Jenkins, 94, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Attala Baptist Medical Center in Kosciusko.

    He lived in Neshoba County all of his life until 10 years ago. At that time he moved into Attala County Nursing Home. He was a U.S. Army veteran and farmer.
  • Services for Mrs. Jan Theresa Hays were at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Curt Pace officiating.

    Cremation followed. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at New Bethel Baptist Church.
  • Shirley Ann Nicholson Carpenter of Terry, 78, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2016, at her home in Terry.

    Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, and 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. until the funeral service on Monday, April 10, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment was in Lakewood Memorial Park.
  • Services for Garland Bell, Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 201,7 at Tucker Facility Building with burial in the Corinth Cemetery.

    Visitation began at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the home of Fredrick Bell, 301 West Tucker Circle.

  • Services for Alejandro Ray York were at 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Standing Pine Facility Building with burial in the Standing Pine Community Cemetery.

    Visitation began at noon Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Standing Pine Facility Building.  John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
  • Services for Edgar M. “Dink” Brewer were Monday, April 10, 2017, at 1 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel. Burial was in High Hill Cemetery. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Brewer, 93, of Brandon, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at Mississippi State Veterans Home.
