A Winston County man remains in custody on multiple charges after he drove through a roadblock manned by sheriff's and police officers Friday night on Mississippi 16 west, the authorities said.

Chad Lofton, 41, of 4126 Calhoun Road, Louisville, was stopped in Winston County just across the line.

He was charged with two counts aggravated assault on officers, felony fleeing and driving under the influence of alcohol, among other traffic citations.

Lofton drove his eastbound vehicle through the roadblock nearly striking two officers, Sheriff Tommy Waddell said.

"The Sheriff's office and Police department were working in conjunction trying to deter drunken drivers when Lofton fled through the roadblock," he said. "He tried to run over two officers."

During the pursuit with officers, he turned onto Mississippi 15 north before being eventually stopped.

No one was injured in the incident, he said.
