A routine patrol of Northside Park by police Friday afternoon led to two felony drug arrests including a jail inmate on a work detail, the authorities said.

Rodney Donald, 32, of 303 Methodist Cemetery Road, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Seized in his arrests were over $1,200 in cash and three firearms.

The inmate, Robert Sloan, 37, 432 Hospital St., was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

"An officer was patrolling Northside Park and observed an inmate on a work detail meeting a car," Chief of Police Grant Myers said. "Further investigation, led to two arrests. We believe it was a planned meeting."

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics is assisting with the investigation.
