Two people face felony charges in connection with the Dec. 6 theft of several items from a building in the Coy community which had housed a store in years past, the authorities said.
Stacy Lewis, 31, of 10910 Highway 16 east and Paul D. Emry, 47, of Mississippi 21 north were charged with grand larceny. Lewis was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
Sheriff Tommy Waddell said the owner of the building caught the two loading several items on their vehicle including two metal gates, a heavy duty safe and a barbecue grill.
"He attempted to block them from leaving and their vehicle struck his," Waddell said.
"The items taken were being stored in the building which used to be a store. After the store closed the owner used it for storage. We believe they were going to sell the items for scrap iron."
