Over 100 people gathered for the Nanih Waiya Day celebration on Friday, Aug. 9.

Following an opening remark by Chief Phyliss J. Anderson, there was a wreath ceremony, Choctaw hymn singing and storytelling by Lucy Morris.

The morning festivites ended with a walk-dance around the mound and a traditional Choctaw meal for lunch. That night the Tribe held the inaugural all-star stickballs games at Choctaw Central High School.
