Friday, Sept. 20, has been named "Tobe Gill Night" at Philadelphia High School.
Gill, a native Philadelphian, has been a Philadelphia icon for many years, and he has been involved in countless volunteer activities within our community.
Whether it is helping with the Red Kettle Campaign for The Salvation Army at Christmas each year, distributing athletic schedules for Philadelphia High School to the local businesses, or helping former mayors, police chiefs and city officials run city government, Tobe has made a lasting impression on the lives of so many people within our community, the school said in an official announcement.
"As we enjoy tonight's contest and look into the future, think back to an opportunity that you may have had to interact and be affected by the generosity and selflessness of this man," continued the announcement. "Please, continue to remember Tobe in your thoughts and prayers as we strive to be as generous in our lives as he has been in his own.
"Once again, we thank Mr. Tobe Gill, Philadelphia's own 'Man About Town!'"
