Neshoba County supervisors took a big step toward getting a bridge on County Road 628 reopened during their Monday meeting.

The state declared the bridge unsafe and ordered it to be closed several months ago. The board accepted the bid of Magco, Inc. of Laurel for replacement of the closed bridge at a bid price of $568,828.65. Five companied put in bids for the job and Magco had the lowest bid.

In other matters, supervisors voted to:

• Approve pay raises for three employees at the county jail;

• Approve a request for a load of dirt at the Katrina debris site. Supervisors also voted to approve a road bore request by Central Water Association along County Road 602 near M&K Farms;

• Approve an application by the city of Union for water main improvements. Supervisors also voted to pay two bills in connection with the Hazard Mitigation Grant Project: $4,596 to Crowder Engineering, and $62,203 to A.E. Boyer Co.;



• Approve a PERS overpayment refund to constable Paul Payne in the amount of $1,517;

• Approve a travel request from Emergency Management for training in Jackson on June 26-27;

• Approve travel reimbursement for Veterans Services officer Ken Edwards. They also approved a travel request to attend the National Association of County Veteran Officers in Cleveland. Ohio;

• Approve out of order claims Dr. A.P. Soriano for $1,000 for April medical services; $34 to Alexander Brown for fuel expenses for his squad car; and, $450 for NACVSO for conference registration.

• Approve an Ad Valorem tax exemption for Weyerhaeuser NR Company.
