Roy White winner in Philadelphia Republican mayoral primary

Roy White is the apparent winner in the Philadelphia Republican mayoral primary with about 57 percent of the vote. He will face incumbent Democrat Mayor James A. Young June 4.
In Ward 1, unoffcial figures indicate a run-off between Republicans Josh Gamblin and Woody Reed on May 21.
The winner faces Democrat John Cooke.
Incumbent Alderman Cecil Nichols in Ward 4 and Bobbie Jackson face a runoff in the Democratic primary.
Eight votes separate incumbent Ward 3 Alderman Ronnie Jenkins and challenger James Tatum in the Democratic primary.
Jim Fulton won the Ward 2 Republican primary with about 60 percent of the vote over Wright Griffis. There is no Democratic opposition in June.
Leroy Clemons swept Jerry Smith in the alderman-at-large Democratic primary with 74 percent of the vote.
Clemons will meet Republican Willie Jackson in the general election.
Thirty-nine affidavit ballots remained.
