Neshoba County residents will soon be able to pay their property taxes and tag renewals over a secure website, following action on Monday by the Board of Supervisors.
The board entered into a web tax payment agreement with Official Payment Corp., to do the credit and debit card processing at the recommendation of Tax Assessor Mike Lewis.
Users of the secure site will pay an additional 2 1/2 percent processing fee for credit cards and a $2.95 fee for debit cards, regardless of the amount, Lewis told supervisors.
Residents will still be able to pay their taxes and tag renewals in the Tax Assessor's office using debit and credit cards.
In a related matter, the county will enter into an agreement with Delta Computer Systems of Biloxi to develop an Internet portal to handle real, personal and mobile home tax payments and motor vehicle tag renewal payments.
The total cost of the new service will be about $3,600.
County Administrator Benjie Coats voiced support for it.
"It's bringing more of a virtual courthouse to the people," he said. "Mike has been looking at it for a long time to find a right vendor."
