The annual Samuel E. and Lettie Long Hames/Haimes family reunion is to be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 in the recreation hall of Gum Branch Baptist Church. God's Closet


God's Closet, a mission of First United Methodist Church, will be re-opening after a summer break on Saturday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. It is located in the Valley View Shopping Center and provides the basic needs of the children of Neshoba County free of charge.

All customers that have not registered their children must bring two bills showing proof of residency in Neshoba County and must provide a birth certificate for each child.

Pine Ridge M.B. Church revival

Pine Ridge M.B. Church will hold a revival July 20-25. Sunday service is at 5:30 p.m. and Monday through Friday is at 7 p.m. Evangelist is Rev. Phillip Gandy and music is by Bro. Billy Gibbs. NCHS Class of 1984 Reunion

The regular scheduled board meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Public School District has been changed to the second Tuesday of the month. The board will meet in the Support Services Facility adjacent to Philadelphia High School at 5:15 p.m. each month.

Summer Show

The Magnolia State Bluegrass Association's Summer Show will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m. at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman. A two-day ServSafe Food Safety Certification class will be held in Philadelphia in the Neshoba County Coliseum multi-purpose room on Aug. 13 and 14.

Registration deadline is July 11.

Free Summer Meals

Youth Development and Education Center, Inc. is proud to announce that we will be sponsoring a Summer Food Service Program beginning June 2 through Aug. 8, at Providence M.B. Church in Philadelphia. These nutritious meals are provided thru USDA guidelines. Breakfast will be served from 8-9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This is a summer meals program provided without charge to school age children up to age 18. There will be no discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

This is a community based project scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. everyday which plans to also include educational and recreational activities of reading, tutoring and some physical activities. For more information contact Annette at 601-732-7390.


NESHOBA COUNTY Youth Football and Cheer

Neshoba County Youth Football and Cheer is offering early bird registration beginning Feb. 28 and ending July 12. Cheer registration will be $85 as opposed to $100; includes a complete uniform. Five and 6 year old tackle is $40 as opposed to $50. Seven to 12 year old tackle is $50 as opposed to $65.

After the July 12 deadline all Early Bird prices will be void and registrants will be required to pay the regular in season fee. A copy of a live birth certificate is also required of each registrant. Neshoba County Youth provides game jersey and game pants for all football season which is to be returned at the end of the season.

A lunch is also provided on in-season away games for every child that is a part of cheer and tackle. There is an End of Year Banquet where awards for each child are provided during the banquet.

Seniors Bingo

Calling all seniors to come out on Tuesday nights at 5 p.m. for some bingo fun at the Northside Park Senior Citizens building. There is only a $2 admission. Refreshments will be served. This is for ages 55 and up!

NAMI Support Group

NAMI Meridian would like to invite any adult diagnosed with a mental illness to join the Connection support group every Tuesday from 5:45 to 7:15 pm at the Wesley House Community Center at 1520 8th Ave. NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness and is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and supporting those living with mental illness and their families.
