The Park Commission has begun its baseball/softball spring program for boys ages 4-13 and girls ages 4-16. This includes tee ball and instruction leagues. Registration will end March 1.

Costs for ages 4 to 5 is $45 and for ages 6 and over, $70.

Baseball is for boys ages 4-13 on May 1, 2014. Softball is for girls ages 4-16 on Jan. 1, 2014.

There will be at $10 late fee after March 1.

Registration will be at city hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday and at Northside Park senior citizens building from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22 and March 1.

There is a $45 entry fee. Uniform is not included. Soccer is for boys and girls ages 4-14 on Aug. 31, 2013.

Age groups for teams will be the same as fall season.

Break Every Chain Woman's Conference

Break Every Chain is a free woman's conference dedicated to inspire, encourage, and empower woman to help one another break the chains in life that prevent a closer relationship with the Lord. It will be held Saturday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in the Carthage Coliseum. Seating begins at 4:45 p.m. Speakers include Mrs. Thelma Wells and Mrs. Robbie Watson. Music by Surrender. Benefit for Joe "Otis" Bozeman

There will be a benefit on March 1, from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Bobby's Country Store on Highway 16 east for Joe Bozeman. It will include a smoked chicken plate served with baked beans, potato salad, roll and desert. Tickets are $6 a plate and must be purchased in advance. Tickets available at Bobby's Country Store or may be purchased from various individuals in the community. All proceeds go to Mr. Otis and his fight against cancer.

Singing at Pinckney Baptist Church

 Pinckney Baptist Church of Union will be hosting a gospel singing on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. featuring Uncle Pug's Bluegrass Gospel group.  Everyone is invited.  The church is located four miles south west of Union off of Mississippi 489.


Linwood Volunteer Fire Department will have a benefit on Saturday, Feb. 22 starting at 11 a.m. Chitterling plates will be $10 and pull pork plates, $7.

Stallo Civic Center

The Blackwood Brothers will be in concert on Saturday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at Ackerman Baptist Church Ackerman. A love offering will be received.

School Board


The regularly scheduled meeting of the Neshoba County School Board for March has been changed from March 10 to March 18 at 5 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Conference Room.


It's a Wonderful Life

French Camp Academy in French Camp will present the play, It's a Wonderful Life, by James Rodgers on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m. in the King Auditorium. Enjoy this stage performance of a favorite all-American story where Clarence earns his wings and George Bailey realizes his is a wonderful life.

Rose Pruning


A Rose Pruning Workshop 101 is scheduled for Saturday, March 1 from 9 a.m. until noon at the MSU Veterans Memorial Rose Garden on the MSU campus. The event will be held rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring gloves.

Pruning techniques for hybrid tea roses and garden shrub roses will be discussed in addition to general maintenance issues.

CMT Support Group

The support group for Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (an inherited neurological disorder) will meet on Saturday, March 1 from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Baptist Healthplex in Clinton. Visitors are welcome.

Concert at Salem Baptist Church

Tutors Available

Parents, do your children need help with homework? Tutors are available on Mondays at the Booker T. Gym starting Monday, March 17 from 5-6 p.m.

This is for students in grades K-8 in subjects: reading/language arts and math.

Students will be tutored by retires teachers and/or volunteer teachers from our school districts, as well as administrators and parents from within the community.
