Sta-Home Volunteers

Volunteers have many opportunities with Sta-Home's hospice program, such as providing companionship to patients and caregivers, shopping for the families, light housekeeping, baking and cooking, filing and making phone calls. Currently we are looking for volunteers ages 16 years and older with a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance. School Board

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Neshoba County School Board for February has been changed from Feb. 10 to Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors' room.

A Private Applicator Certification class will be taught on Tuesday, Feb. 18 beginning at 4 p.m. in the Neshoba County Coliseum multi-purpose room. Individuals wishing to obtain private applicator certification may call the Extension Service office at 656-4602 to pre-register for this training. The cost for the class is $10 and it is payable the day of the class.

Individuals who require special accommodations to participate should contact the Extension office to make their request known prior to the program. Contact should be made timely to ensure appropriate accommodation.


Northside Pentecostal Church Outreach Ministry will have a benefit singing featuring Glory Bound on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The church is across from Northside Park. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 601-656-2479.


The Park Commission has begun its baseball/softball spring program for boys ages 4-13 and girls ages 4-16. This includes tee ball and instruction leagues. Registration will end March 1.

Costs for ages 4 to 5 is $45 and for ages 6 and over, $70.

Baseball is for boys ages 4-13 on May 1, 2014. Softball is for girls ages 4-16 on Jan. 1, 2014.

There will be at $10 late fee after March 1.

Registration will be at city hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday and at Northside Park senior citizens building from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22 and March 1.



The Park Commission has begun its spring soccer program for boys and girls ages 4-14.

There is a $45 entry fee. Uniform is not included. Soccer is for boys and girls ages 4-14 on Aug. 31, 2013.

Registration will be at city hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday and at Northside Park senior citizens building from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22 and March 1.

Age groups for teams will be the same as fall season.

Break Every Chain Woman's Conference

Break Every Chain is a free woman's conference dedicated to inspire, encourage, and empower woman to help one another break the chains in life that prevent a closer relationship with the Lord. It will be held Saturday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in the Carthage Coliseum. Seating begins at 4:45 p.m. Speakers include Mrs. Thelma Wells and Mrs. Robbie Watson. Music by Surrender. Benefit for Joe "Otis" Bozeman

Saturday March 1, from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Bobby's Country Store on Highway 16 east is sponsoring a smoked chicken plate served with baked beans, potato salad, roll and desert. Tickets are $6 a plate and must be purchased in advance. Tickets available at Bobby's Country Store or may be purchased from various individuals in the community. All proceeds go to Mr. Otis and his fight against cancer.


Beat Line Baptist Church will have a concert featuring The Pearl Quartet Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.  There will be a love offering taken during intermission and snacks following the concert in the Family Life Center.  Everyone is welcome. The church is located 7 miles south of Philadelphia on road 505.

Singing at Pinckney Baptist Church

 Pinckney Baptist Church of Union will be hosting a gospel singing on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. featuring Uncle Pug's Bluegrass Gospel group.  Everyone is invited.  The church is located four miles south west of Union off of Mississippi 489.


Linwood Volunteer Fire Department will have a benefit on Saturday, Feb. 22 starting at 11 a.m. Chitterling plates will be $10 and pull pork plates, $7.
