CMT Support Group
The support group of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (an inherited neurological disorder) will meet on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 2-4:30 p.m.at the Baptist Healthplex, 102 Clinton Parkway, Clinton, Mississippi 39046. Visitors are welcome.
Preliminary competition division includes Outstanding Teen and Miss Division. The pageant will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at 6 p.m. in the Philadelphia-Neshoba CDG Auditorium. Both prelims are open and girls from all over the state will be eligible to compete in both Miss East Central Mississippi and at the same time Miss Southland as Open Preliminaries and winners will advance to the Miss Mississippi Pageant. The monthly meeting of the Central MS Chapter 1251 of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees) will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 11:30 a.m. at Ronnie's Steak and Grill, 734 Pecan Avenue, Philadelphia. Christmas gifts will be exchanged. Ladies should bring a lady's gift, men should bring a man's gift. Costs of the gifts should not exceed $15. VFW Food Drive
VFW Post 4396 will begin their first ever nonperishable food drive. At this point the goal is to assist veterans, widows/widowers of a veteran.
Should this drive prove to be successful organizers may opt to expand to help more. The post is there to assist all veterans, not just members of the VFW. All we that is needed is proof of eligibility.
There are five places used as a drop off point for food:
National Guard Armory; Philadelphia Cleaners; Shamrock 'D tat 2; SUZY'Qs monogramming and the VFW post on 16 E.
All drop off points are available Monday - Friday with the exception of the National Guard they will be Tuesday - Friday.
For more information regarding the drive can be directed to Leavy Shoffner, 601-504-1529 and Susan Shoffner 601-562-1769. Officials also want to remind veterans that there is a Post Service Officer who is now available five days a week at no cost.
We also have packets in the event you need a lawyer to help with your claim and assisting in getting it approved. They will only work a case if you had been denied by the VA.
The nursing home residents' annual Christmas Bazaar is Dec. 6. They will get started at 8 a.m. in the activity room by station 3. This year they will have hand-painted pottery, crafts and homemade baked goods. Please remember this day, and purchase some Christmas gifts from our residents. All proceeds go to the activity fund for supplies and future events. Nursing home residents expressed appreciation.
Drive-Through Live Nativity
Sandtown United Methodist Church will be having a seven-scene, drive-through live Nativity on Friday night, Dec. 13 and Saturday night, Dec. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. each night with live animals and two casts of over 40 participants per cast. Boys & Girls Club
Boys & Girls Club of Neshoba County is selling raffle tickets for a 32 GB Ipad Mini. Chances are $5 each. Drawing will be Dec. 19. Tickets can be purchased at the Boys and Girls Club, 239 Byrd Ave. or from any board member.
A revival at Christian Life Apostolic Church will be held Thursday through Sunday starting at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Pearl River Elementary School is presenting two holiday concerts this Friday, Dec. 6. Pre-K - second grade and the sixth grade band will present the Pearl River Elementary Holiday Concert at 9 a.m. Grades 3-5 will present an original Christmas musical called, "Saving Christmas" 1 p.m. at Pearl River Elementary. Come and enjoy festive songs, dancing and instruments as we help spread joy this Christmas season! The concert and musical is under the direction of Carol Styron. Admission is free, but people are encouraged to bring a can of food or other non-perishable food item for our local charities.
NORTH BEND FIRE
North Bend Fire Protection District will hold its annual meeting Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at Fire Station #1 on Highway 21 North. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
The Philadelphia - Neshoba County Arts Council will hold auditions on Dec 16 and 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ellis for Suessical the Musical. This will be a musical of approximately 100. CANDLELIGHT SERVICE AT CROSS MOUNTAIN MINISTRIES

The Edwards Christmas dinner will be Saturday, Dec. 14 in the fellowship hall at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship with us.
Shield of Faith Anniversary
Shield of Faith Ministries will be celebrating their fifth year church anniversary on Dec. 13 and 15. There will be a healing and deliverance service on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
The services will conclude on Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. Pastor Benny Stribling of Flint, Mich. will be the guest speaker.
