PHILADELPHIA - Two Philadelphia men were arrested on drug charges after a brief chase with Nehsoba County Sheriff’s Deputies Thursday afternoon.

Kevin Eakes, 44, of 10391 Road 1535 and Edwin Chris Malone, 45, of 10501 Road 541 were both arrested in connection with drugs and drug paraphernalia found in the vehicle, a Gold Pontiac. Malone also faces a contempt of court charge.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said Friday that deputies were involved in what he described as "a short chase" in pursuit of a gold Pontiac driven by one of the two men. The chase began on County Road 571 and the men were apprehended around 3:17 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Highway 15 North.

More charges could be forthcoming following the investigation, which was still ongoing Friday. The Democrat could not confirm the official list of charges for the two individuals by press time, or which suspect was alleged to have been driving the vehicle.

“During the pursuit, officers observed a passenger throwing clear plastic bags from the vehicle,” Clark said. When his deputies recovered the bags, Clark said they found that they contained white crystal substances that appeared to be crystal methamphetamine.

Clark said his deputies also found a syringe tucked into the driver’s sock and two more containing what appeared to be meth in his right jacket pocket and, in the car, a glass pipe that contained residue of what appeared to also be meth.

The arrests netted over seven grams of meth, seven dosage units of Ecstasy, misdemeanor-level amounts of marijuana and several items of paraphernalia.

Both men remained in custody as of Friday afternoon.
