A Philadelphia man was fatally injured Saturday night when he was struck by a car as he was walking across Mississippi 19 south in the Tucker community, the authorities said.

Maurice McMillan Sr., 54, of 184 Tucker Cutoff Road, was struck at the intersection of BIA Road 0241 about 7:45 p.m., Sheriff Tommy Waddell said.

"He was crossing the roadway," he said.

County Medical Examiner Allan Collins pronounced McMillan dead at the scene.

"He appeared to be trying to cross 19 south from the east to the west when he was struck by a car," Collins said. "His body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy."

The motorist stopped at the scene, Collins said, noting that no foul play is suspected.

The accident investigation was turned over to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Choctaw Police Department assisted with traffic control in the wake of the accident.

Services for McMillan will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Enoch McMillan and Edna Sam, and his wife, Gloria McMillan, among other family members.

Among his survivors are two daughters and six sons.
