The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets wrapped up their seventh straight North State championship Monday night as they swept past Lafayette in the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s Class 5A tournament.

Neshoba Central won the first game 2-0 last Thursday. After a weather delay over the weekend, the Lady Rockets took a 17-0 victory on the road Monday night.

The Lady Tornadoes will now try to claim their seventh straight fast-pitch state championship when they play Wayne County this week at the University of Southern Mississippi. The two teams played for the fast-pitch state championship in 2014. They have played for the slow-pitch state championship five times, including this past fall.

“It’s all a team effort,” Coach Trea Embry said. “We said at the start of the playoffs that we were eight wins away from winning the state championship. We now have six of those wins; we need two more.”

Neshoba Central stands at 31-3. Wayne County, which defeated North Pike for the South State championship, comes in at 15-7 according to Max Preps.

Weather permitting, the series starts Thursday night. The second game will be played Friday night. If game three is needed, it’s set for Saturday.
