Auditions

The PNC Arts Council will hold auditions for "A Celebration of Disney" on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. from the Ellis Theatre. Auditions are for high school students and adults. This is a musical. Be prepared to sing 1-2 minutes of a song. Bring sheet music. Song will be with piano accompaniment.

GARDEN CLUB

The Town & Country Garden Club of Philadelphia met Friday Aug. 15 at the home of Rebecca Barnett. Club president Margaret Thomas presided over the planning meeting to confirm details of an upcoming luncheon for prospective members, informative monthly programs, guest speakers and civic improvement projects. The members are enthusiastic about the coming year and eager to start several gardening projects designed to benefit the whole community. The club's purpose is education, beautification, and conservation. This year is especially significant to the Philadelphia club because it is their 30th anniversary having been organized back in 1984. The Town & Country Garden Club of Philadelphia is a member of the Mississippi Garden Club, Inc.



Soul Searching Xplosion Annual Revival

House of Hope Revival

Summer Revival

Greater Ebenezer M.B. Church will host its annual Summer Revival Aug. 24-27. Sunday night service will begin at 6 p.m., with guest speaker Rochelle Wright, pastor of Union Grove Baptism Church of Canton. Monday through Wednesday night service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday night - Rev. Rochelle Wright, Tuesday and Wednesday night - Rev. Southern Heritage Concert

High Hill Baptist Church Neshoba County will host "Southern Heritage" in concert Sunday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.

Mississippi Sacred Harp Singing Convention

The 86th annual Mississippi Sacred Harp singing convention with dinner on the grounds will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23 and 24, at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church 6.5 miles north of Forest on Highway 21. Singing is a cappella from oblong hymnals like the ones your grandparents may have used. The public is welcome to join in the congregational singing or just listen to beautiful songs going back to colonial times. Shape-note singings are non-denominational, community events and there is no charge to attend. Benefit Auction

The Gary Kiddy Benefit Auction will be held at Sebastopol Stockyard, located behind the Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General, on Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. This will be a miscellaneous  auction to help raise money for Gary Kiddy and his family. Gary was hit from behind by another vehicle on his way to work in December 2013. He suffered head injuries that have left him unable to work since. His family needs help. Neshoba County Community Relief Fund Committee

You are invited to our big fundraising event, Saturday, Sept. 20, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Westside Community Center. This event will feature gospel singing.

Billy Culverson will be the M.C. This community effort is being done to raise building funds to help three congregations affected by the April 28 storm in Winston County.

Your financial support is needed and will be appreciated. Tickets will be sold for fish sandwiches and/or a bottle water or pop. Donation is $5.



High Hill Baptist Church Revival

Home-School Kick Off

A Home-School Kick Off will be held at Wess Chapel Baptist Church on Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. The event will be hosted by C.H.E.A.L. (Christian Home Educators Association of Louisville). There will be activities for the kids as well as a "Build Your Own Sundae" buffet. Door prizes will be given and there will also be a "Curriculum Swap" so please bring any materials you want to swap, sell or give away.

Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society

Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society will resume meeting on Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Ramzy Room of the Carthage-Leake County Library after a summer break.

Ann McKee with the Rose Hill Company will be the program presenter for this meeting. She will speak about the candlelight tour of the Rose Hill Cemetery in Meridian that is held each fall. Many of Meridian's founding Fathers, Confederate soldiers, the King and Queen of the gypsies and other notable people are buried there.

Time has come again for Philly Youth Football registration for new and old players. If you are interested in playing football and cheering with Philly Youth Football and between the ages 4-12 years old,  please see the below names. 24th annual Forestry and Wildlife Festival

Saturday, Sept. 27 will be a very special day in Clarke County as it will celebrate the annual Clarke County Forestry and Wildlife Festival at Archusa Water Park in Quitman.

The Clarke County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the festival in an effort to promote the county for tourism and to provide family fun for area residents. It is the main event of the fall season for our Chamber and for our county.

Activities will begin at 9 a.m. The event will include Children's Breakfast with Special Characters, a car and truck show, Kiddie-Land with Nickelodeon-type children's games, arts and crafts, live entertainment, bass tournament, equipment displays, and porcelain chariot races. Ted Mangum from Ellisville will have his huge "Little Red Wagon." There will also be lots of good food, including homemade ice cream, and a chance to win $500 cash. Bring a lawn chair and spend the day.

Registrations are now being accepted for booth spaces for the event. Spaces are available for Arts & Crafts, trades, industrial, equipment exhibits and food sales. Booth registration deadline is Sept. 23.

Benefit for Cancer Patient

A benefit for Frances Dennis will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 from 4 p.m. until at the Zion Church of God (The Old Arbor) on Zion Road between Sebastopol and Rosebud. Uncle Pug's Blue Grass Band will play and sing from 5-6 p.m.

Hamburger and hot dog plates will be for sale, also cakes, ice cream and other food items. An auction will go from 6 p.m. until.

NAMI Support Group

NAMI Meridian would like to invite any adult diagnosed with a mental illness to join the Connection support group every Tuesday from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. at the Wesley House Community Center at 1520 8th Ave.

NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness and is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and supporting those living with mental illness and their families.

A family support group (Family-to-Family) meets the second Tuesday of each month at the same time and place.
