Benefit Auction

The Gary Kiddy Benefit Auction will be held at Sebastopol Stockyard, located behind the Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General, on Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. This will be a miscellaneous  auction to help raise money for Gary Kiddy and his family. Gary was hit from behind by another vehicle on his way to work in December 2013. He suffered head injuries that have left him unable to work since. His family needs help. Neshoba County Community Relief Fund Committee

You are invited to our big fundraising event, Saturday, Sept. 20, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Westside Community Center. This event will feature gospel singing. Mr. Billy Culverson will be the M.C. This community effort is being done to raise building funds to help three congregations affected by the April 28 storm in Winston County. Your financial support is needed and will be appreciated. CEU Credit Computer & Trade Classes

Registration is now open for CEU classes at the Career-Tech (formerly Vo-Tech) Center.

We offer computer classes in Microsoft Office and Technology for teachers, sewing design, basic automotive and basic home repair classes. Other classes may be offered if enough students are interested.

Any class offered must have a minimum of six register for the class to make. The cost of a 25-hour class (2.5 CEUs) is $100, due at registration. If the required number does not register, registration fees paid will be refunded. After class meets one time there will be no refunds. (*Fees are subject to change.)

The eight-week classes meet one night per week from 6 to 9 p.m., tentatively beginning later in August.

Home-School Kick Off

A Home-School Kick Off will be held at Wess Chapel Baptist Church on Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. The event will be hosted by C.H.E.A.L. (Christian Home Educators Association of Louisville). There will be activities for the kids as well as a "Build Your Own Sundae" buffet. Door prizes will be given and there will also be a "Cirriculum Swap" so please bring any materials you want to swap, sell, or give away. Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society

Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society will resume meeting on Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Ramzy Room of the Carthage-Leake County Library after a summer break.

Ann McKee with the Rose Hill Company will be the program presenter for this meeting. She will speak about the candlelight tour of the Rose Hill Cemetery in Meridian that is held each fall. Many of Meridian's founding Fathers, Confederate soldiers, the King and Queen of the gypsies and other notable people are buried there.

24th annual Forestry and Wildlife Festival

Saturday, Sept. 27 will be a very special day in Clarke County as it will celebrate the annual Clarke County Forestry and Wildlife Festival at Archusa Water Park in Quitman.

The Clarke County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the festival in an effort to promote the county for tourism and to provide family fun for area residents. It is the main event of the fall season for our Chamber and for our county.

Activities will begin at 9 a.m. The event will include Children's Breakfast with Special Characters, a car and truck show, Kiddie-Land with Nickelodeon-type children's games, arts and crafts, live entertainment, bass tournament, equipment displays, and porcelain chariot races. Ted Mangum from Ellisville will have his huge "Little Red Wagon." There will also be lots of good food, including homemade ice cream, and a chance to win $500 cash. Bring a lawn chair and spend the day.

Registrations are now being accepted for booth spaces for the event. Spaces are available for Arts & Crafts, trades, industrial, equipment exhibits and food sales. Booth registration deadline is Sept. 23.

The Little Zion M.B. Church will be having their annual homecoming Sunday, Aug. 17 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. James Steele from Brown Ridge Baptist Church will be the guest speaker. Revival will be Aug. 18-22 starting at 7 p.m. Rev. A.C. Rush will be the speaker. The public is invited.



Collins Family Reunion

The Collins family reunion Cousin Fun Day will be Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Mississippi Muse Cabin at Oka-Itsu Puah Falls in Decatur from 1-6 p.m. Come join us in a day of family fun. Hot dogs will be provided, please bring snacks of your choice to go with the hot dogs and bring soda.

God's Tabernacle Women's Workshop

Benefit for Cancer Patient

A benefit for Frances Dennis will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 from 4 p.m. until at the Zion Church of God (The Old Arbor) on Zion Road between Sebastopol and Rosebud. Uncle Pug's Blue Grass Band will play and sing from 5-6 p.m.

NAMI Support Group

NAMI Meridian would like to invite any adult diagnosed with a mental illness to join the Connection support group every Tuesday from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. at the Wesley House Community Center at 1520 8th Ave. NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness and is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and supporting those living with mental illness and their families.
