Information is being sought in connection with the vandalism of a surplus military vehicle the Stallo Volunteer Fire Department plans to convert into a tanker truck.

The key to the truck was also stolen.

Stallo VFD Fire Chief Mitch Lyons said the truck was purchased in August 2013 to serve as a water hauler for the department.

The truck was parked at Stallo Station 1 when someone used a pipe to damage the body and shatter the front window, Lyons said.

"We found the pipe they used," he said, noting that the truck is not easy to crank by someone unfamiliar with it. "Thankfully they weren't able to get it started."

The department was in the process of upgrading the vehicle when the incident occurred.

The Sheriff's Department was called in and the case remains under investigation, Lyons said.

He said, however, that if the guilty party comes forward and returns the key no legal action would be taken by the fire department.
