God's Closet, a mission of the First United Methodist Church, has extended its normal donation days due to the extremely cold weather.

"We try to meet the basic clothing and school supplies needs for both area schools," Brenda Vowell, a coordinator for the mission, said.

The mission is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9-12 to accept donations, which will be handed out on Saturdays.

However, Vowell said, due to the recent drop in temperatures they will be handing out donations on Thursday, as well as on Saturday.

The mission is also currently asking for donations of coats, toboggans, gloves and scarves.

"Anything warm really," Vowell said, noting that each registered customer can receive only two coats a year.

Only registered customers will receive donations. To register, proof of residency must be brought in. To receive any donation for children, age 4-18, a birth certificate must be presented.

"There's no cost to register," Vowell said. "We have over 300 registered children."
