Jessica L. Carter is a native of Philadelphia and is a second year law student at the Paul M Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University. Recently she was selected to present her paper entitled, "Prison is the New Slave Trade: Born Into It, Living Through It, But Does True Freedom Exist?" at the "Rethinking Mass Incarceration in the Deep South" conference to be held at the University of Mississippi April 13-15. Carter is a 2005 graduate of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science and a 2009 graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. This summer she will be a legal intern with the Advancement Project in Washington DC. Carter is the daughter of Linda Carter and Marino Carter, both of Philadelphia.
