Mark Powell, director of golf for Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, was recently honored with the Carpenter/Lindsay Award from the Professional Golfers' Association of America, Gulf States Section (GSPGA).

Named for two former PGA national presidents in Mississippi, James Ray Carpenter and Ken Lindsay, the distinguished award recognizes individuals who have gallantly served, promoted and supported the game of golf and PGA golf professionals.

"Words cannot express how deeply honored I am to receive this prominent award from the PGA," Powell stated, "It is such a rewarding experience to work at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club and be involved in every facet of a world-class resort. I am truly humbled and give much credit to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Pearl River Resort, and the Mississippi Development Authority."

Powell has served as director of golf at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club for over eight years and has served in every office of the GSPGA and MPGA from 1997 to 2011.

Powell has also been honored with the 2008 GSPGA Golf Professional of the Year, the 2004 GSPGA Junior Golf Leader and the 2001 Mississippi Golf Professional of the Year.

During his tenure at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, Powell has supported several initiatives and events including the MPGA Mississippi Open, GSPGA Championship, MPGA Championship and the 2012 Governor's Cup of Mississippi.

Under Powell's leadership, Dancing Rabbit Golf Club has won numerous awards, recently receiving the "Best Golf Course" award in the 2012 Best of Mississippi reader's survey by Mississippi Magazine and the 2012 Top Course You Can Play and Silver Premier Resort by Golf Magazine.

Previous awards include Top Resort Course by Golfweek (2011, 2010, 2008); a Silver Medalist by Golf Magazine (2008); No. 1 Casino Golf Course by Southern Gaming (2009); Top 40 Casino Course by Golf Digest (2011, 2007); Top 25 Casino Course by Golfweek (2007) and Best course in Mississippi by Mississippi Magazine (6 times).
