Eupora woman charged with felony drug possession
A Eupora woman has been charged with possession of Ecstasy.
Kalilah S. Starks, 36, of 24 Ross Lane, Eupora, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (Ecstasy), driving under the influence of a substance other than alcohol, no driver's license and careless driving.
She was arrested after a routine traffic stop on Main Street on June 19 around 3 a.m., Police Chief Grant Myers said.
Sheriff warns of phone and checking scams
Sheriff Tommy Waddell is warning Neshoba County residents to be wary of anyone calling in saying they have won a large cash prize or a new vehicle.
"It's a scam," he said.
The sheriff said the calls are from an out-of-state number and the caller talks with a Jamaican accent. He also noted that they might claim to be from the Publisher's Clearinghouse.
"If it's the Publisher's Clearinghouse they're not going to contact you by phone," he said.
Waddell urged citizens to immediately hang-up if they receive these calls.
Philadelphia man charged with possession of crack
A Philadelphia man has been charged with possession of crack cocaine after a routine traffic stop.
Fern Smith, 24, of 205 St. Francis Dr., has been charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
He was arrested on June 18 during a routine traffic stop on Lewis Avenue.
"He was one of four passengers in a car that was stopped," Sheriff Tommy Waddell said.
Smith remains in the Neshoba County jail on $30,000 bond.
Union man charged with possession of crystal meth
A Union man has been charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine after being pulled over at a safety checkpoint.
Chris Dooley, 35, of 10211 Road 2210, Union, was charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine on June 19.
"We were running a safety checkpoint on Mississippi 16 east near Bounds Avenue at the city limits when he pulled up in his vehicle," Sheriff Tommy Waddell.
Due to drug paraphernalia in plain view in the vehicle Dooley was pulled over and after a search of his person deputies found the crystal methamphetamine.
He is currently out on $5,000 bond.
Philadelphia man found with morphine
A Philadelphia man was arrested last week after deputies found morphine tablets in his possession.
Jerry Smith, 46, of 100 Sistrunk Trailer Park #14, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of a substance other than alcohol after a traffic stop in the Neshoba community at the intersection of county Road 325 and 339, Sheriff Tommy Waddell said.
"The drugs [morphine tablets] were in plain view," the sheriff said.
He currently remains in the Neshoba County jail.
