Chilean nationals charged with car burglary
BY DUNCAN DENT
Wednesday, November 27, 2019 12:00 PM
Three men and a woman, all Chilean nationals, have been arrested and charged with an auto burglary in Philadelphia last Wednesday afternoon.
Philadelphia Police arrested Gabriel Alejandro Ahumado Merino, 52, Matias Nicolas Ahumada Avendano, 29, Cristian David Ahumada Avendano, 18, and Paola Rios, 29, and charged all four with auto burglary.
The four allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle from Deanco Auction on Holland Avenue on Wednesday, Nov. 20 around 3 p.m., according to Philadelphia Detective Bobby Patillo.
Patillo said the suspects triggered the vehicle’s alarm system and were confronted by the vehicle's owner. They then fled the area and were apprehended after a traffic stop.
None of the individuals arrested in relation to the incident have listed local or U.S. addresses. Patillo speculated the suspects were “just passing through.”
All four had their respective bonds set at $5,000. As of Monday, Matias and Gabriel had bonded out. The other two remained in custody at the Neshoba County Detention Center.
Patillo said PPD had contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but that their immigration status was unknown as of press time. They did not have U.S. addresses.
