A Brandon woman was arrested here on grand larceny charges after a motorist saw a Facebook post about a stolen SUV and spotted the vehicle at a convenience store on Pecan Avenue, the authorities said.
Mary Ann Fontenot, 35, of 348 Lake Harbor Dr., Brandon, was charged with grand larceny, driving under the influence of a substance other than alcohol, second offense, and breaking and entering.
Sheriff's Investigator Grant Myers said Fontenot was driving the SUV when officers stopped her on Pecan Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 29 shortly after 8:30 p.m.
"She was driving a Pewter 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe which was reported stolen from a residence that same day on Highway 21 north in the Longino community around 6 p.m.," Myers said.
"The owners came home after being out of town and discovered their vehicle was missing. They went inside where they found signs that someone had been in their house. Fontenot took the keys to the Tahoe and another vehicle that was parked in the yard from inside the house. We believe for the past week or so she had been staying at another residence close to where the theft occurred."
After seeing a post on Facebook about the theft, a citizen spotted the Tahoe at a convenience store and reported it to authorities.
Sheriff's deputies and Constable Paul Payne stopped the vehicle on Pecan Avenue near the intersection of Kosciusko Road.
Fontenot remains in the county jail under a $42,000 bond.
