The Arts Council is gearing up for next month's spring musical, which will feature over 50 songs performed by 26 vocalists.

The spring musical, "And the Winner Is - A Night at the Awards," will take the Ellis Theater stage on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 9 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m.

The play is a musical revue that everyone will enjoy, said Kinsey Goldman, who will direct the musical along with Andrea Moore.

"It celebrates the award winning songs from the Oscars, the Grammys, the Country Music Association, the Tonys and the Doves," she said.

Moore recently worked on Annie and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

She described the play as being "community created," with her and Goldman selecting the songs and writing the script.

"It's the story of the awards and how the songs came about," she said.

The performance will have a comfortable, informal feel to it, Moore said, noting the vocalists' seats will be around the stage with a black backdrop.

Moore said each of the songs selected for the musical has won an award.

Among the popular hits will be "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

"There is such a wide variety of music that everyone will find something they love," Goldman said. "There is a cast of 26 ready to sing for you."

Moore noted that selecting the cast was not a difficult task.

"When those 26 arrived we knew who would be in it," she said. "We've been practicing everyone Monday, Tuesday and Thursday since January and it's been a blast."

Tickets are currently on sale for $15 for non Arts Council members, $10 for members and $5 for youth age 2 to high school senior.

"It's gonna be great," Moore said. "It's one of those things where everyone will find something they'll enjoy. It's been fun putting it together."
