A two-vehicle wreck involving a pickup and an 18-wheeler left two people injured last week on Highway 15 north of Philadelphia.

The Dodge pickup truck driver was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and the driver of the tractor-trailer flatbed rig was transported to a Winston County hospital, according to the wreck report filed by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Philadelphia Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Clark said the two vehicles each collided head-on and then ran several hundred yards apart from each other off the roadway.

“There was major damage to the Dodge pickup and traffic was backed up for several hours,” Clark said.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy West said the cause of the accident is still under investigation and no one other than the drivers were in the vehicles.

The names of the drivers could not be obtained by the time of publication.

The wreck happened on Jan. 2 near Burnside.
