Lanterns will light up the sky Friday night during the annual Relay for Life event to raise over $60,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Ten teams will compete in the relay on the football field at Neshoba Central High School. The relay was postponed earlier because of rain.

Relay will begin with a cancer survivors' reception at 6 p.m., followed by the survivor walk at 7 p.m. Caregivers will join survivors on the second lap.

Casey Mars is this year's honorary chairman.

The sky lanterns will be sold for $25 each in honor or in memory of a loved one or friend.

They will be released during the luminaria ceremony, which begins at 9 p.m.

Relay volunteer Deana Cumberland said the goal of this year's relay was to raise $60,200. Last year, volunteers raised $57,000.

Relay will include several games and activities for children. There will be "plenty of food," including barbecue, hamburgers, cotton candy, dill pickles and pizza.

The Neshoba Central Naval Junior ROTC will present the colors when relay officially begins at 7 p.m. Shannon Posey will sing the national anthem.

Several vocal performances are planned throughout the night starting at 7:15 p.m. The stage will be set up on the 50-yard-line of the football field.

This year's teams are:

Ocobla Baptist Church, Neshoba County General Hospital, Philly First Flames, The Citizens Bank, Bumpers, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Sta-Home Home Health, Citizens National Bank and Neshoba Natives.

Cumberland said the relay would continue until midnight.

The luminarias and sky lanterns will be available for purchase prior to relay at the Citizens Bank. They will also be available on the night of relay.
