Sears Hometown in Philadelphia is saluting to a local volunteer fire department through the Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. "Salute to Local Heroes."
Donations are being accepted at the store.
"The objective of 'Salute to Local Heroes' is to provide volunteer fire departments across the U.S. with funds to improve their resources for training, equipment and financial support," said Sears Hometown Manager Lee Gardner
Gardner said this year the store was able to select Arlington Volunteer Fire Department as the recipient of the funds raised.
"Seven out of 10 firefighters are volunteers and these men and women are critical to our community," said Gardner
"One hundred percent of the contributed funds will be given to the Arlington VFD," said Gardner.
Gardner said the money that the store will present to Arlington VFD is unrestricted and it can be used for technology, equipment, trucks, etc.
Donations will be accepted through Dec. 31 and the money will be presented in January.
"We need to support our local fire fighters. They do a lot and get almost nothing in return. This is a way to say thank you to them for their service," said Gardner.
"Salute to Local Heroes" is sponsored by Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. along with the National Volunteer Fire Council.
