A fire at a mobile home that claimed the life of a woman early Saturday morning is being investigated by city and county officials after an accelerant was found at the scene, the authorities said.

Officials responded to a fire at 140 Sistrunk Ave. at 5:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

Smoke was pouring out of windows and doors when firefighters arrived, Police Chief Bill Cox said.

The remains of a woman were found inside after the blaze was under control, he said.

"We will not be releasing the name until the body is positively identified and the family is contacted," Cox said.

Fire Investigator Ralph Sciple said the source of the blaze "seemed suspicious" as an accelerant was found at the scene.

"An investigation is under way," he added, noting the state fire marshal had been called in to assist.
