One adult and five children died early Saturday morning when the vehicle they were traveling in left the roadway and submerged into a creek near the Neshoba-Newton County line, the authorities said.

Sheriff Tommy Waddell said the accident occurred on Road 107 shortly after 12:30 a.m.

The six were pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

"There were nine people in the car," Waddell said. "The driver was taken by ambulance to Neshoba County General

Hospital were he remains hospitalized. Two other adults were not seriously injured."

Waddell would not release any names pending notification of family members.

All nine were Choctaw Tribal members, he said.
