A Philadelphia man was charged Tuesday morning in connection with a shooting a day earlier at a residence on east Myrtle Street.

Sutanga Cypress, 31, of 461 Myrtle St., was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the Monday afternoon shooting, Police Chief Bill Cox said.

Cypress is charged with shooting Clara Triplett in her left thigh at the east Myrtle home he shared with friend Red McCarty, Cox said.

A single 7.62-caliber casing was found at the scene, Cox said.

After the shooting, Cypress left the scene and remained on the run until his arrest shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the police chief said.

Two subjects were also detained at the scene for questioning, he added.

Triplett was taken to Neshoba County General Hospital and later airlifted to the University Medical Center in Jackson.

She is in stable condition, Cox said.

"The cause of the shooting is still under investigation," he said.
