Occupation and what it entails:
I work at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital as a medical technologist in the transfusion service department. I perform blood types and antibody screens on patient samples. I make sure donor blood is compatible with the patient's blood. I prepare blood for trauma patients, surgery patients, hematology and oncology patients, transplant patients, and etc.
Tell us about your family:
I have been married to my husband, Johnny, for six years. Johnny is a computer software engineer for Callidus Cloud Software. He grew up in Huntsville, Ala. We have a newborn daughter, Annie Grace, who was born June 27.
My parents are Nelson Jr. and Betty White. I have two older brothers Kevin and Allen. Allen is married to Karrah. They have three daughters Abbi, Morgan, and Harper Leigh.
What are your hobbies and favorite past times?
My husband and I love to travel. Other favorite hobbies of mine are reading, exercising, and shopping!
How long have you been coming to the Fair?
I have been coming to the Fair since I was born. I have never missed a Fair.
Tell us about the cabin you are staying in.
My parents bought our cabin in 1976. I love the street that our cabin is on. It is quite and peaceful. This year will be an exciting year at the cabin because we have two new additions, my daughter Annie Grace and my niece Harper Leigh.
What are some of your favorite memories of the Fair growing up as a child?
Playing with the other kids on our street during the day is one of my favorite childhood memories. Then going to the midway once it got dark. We would all beg our parents to take us during the day. None of them would. It seemed like it took forever to get dark!
What do you like best about the Fair now?
My favorite thing about the Fair now is the time I get to spend with family and friends. It is nice to know that one week of the year, that I can see family and friends all in one place! Another favorite is all the good food!
What events or happenings do you attend each year at the Fair and why?
I enjoy going to the flea market every year. It is neat to see all the arts and crafts from the surrounding areas. It is always fun to catch up with people while watching the horse races too. Another favorite event of mine, is going to watch the beauty pageant. I enjoy going to the pavilion at night. There is always someone there that you know and the music is always good.
What are some of your favorite "family traditions" at the Fair?
My favorite family tradition is my mom's Sunday lunch. She cooks so much food and it is delicious!
What aspects of the Fair do you hope will never change?
I hope that Annie Grace looks forward to the Fair for the same reasons that I do, visiting with family and seeing "Fair friends" for one whole week of the summer.
What significant events have happened in your life since you left Philadelphia?
I got my bachelors degree in Microbiology from MSU. I moved to Birmingham, Ala. in 2002. I received my masters degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. I started working at UAB Hospital in 2004. Johnny and I got married in 2007. We had our first child, Annie Grace, on June 27.
