MARCH 3, 1939

Enos J. Perry, dairy specialist of the New Jersey extension service, Rutgers University, said that “Shawmut Sally Queen” is the first test-tube calf born in the nation’s first cooperative association for artificial cattle breeding.


MARCH 4, 1949

Irvin W. Barrett has been named as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Neshoba County Hospital from District 1 to succeed Mrs. H.T. Key, who resigned several weeks ago. Mr. Barrett was named to fill the unexpired term, which ends December 1st, 1950. 


MARCH 5, 1959

The Reverend Roy Collum, new pastor of the Philadelphia First Baptist Church has arrived to take over his  duties at the church. The Rev. Collum came to Philadelphia from a pastorate at Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty, Ms. He has been there since ’51. He is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and he attend Baylor University, Louisiana College, Centenary College and New Orleans Seminary. 


MARCH 6, 1969

Dwight Savell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Savell, recently graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy in Jackson and has been assigned to his new post as a highway patrolman at Brookhaven, Mississippi. Savell is a graduate of Moss Point High School and attended Perkinston Junior College. 


MARCH 1, 1979

First Methodist’s Bobby Posey found nothing but hands in this attempted shot, but Spring Creek’s Sam Nowell was called for a foul. First Methodist handed Spring Creek its first loss of the season 55-39 in the Monday Night game. 

MARCH 8, 1989

Matt Alford and Penny Crawford have been selected Mr. and Mrs. East Central Community College following the recent Who’s Who elections on campus. Alford, a graduate of East Ranking Academy, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Frank Alford of Forest. He currently serves as Student Body Association President. Alford, a Liberal Arts major, plans to attend the University of Mississippi. Miss Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Crawford of Philadelphia, is a graduate of Neshoba Central High School. She has received many honors at ECCC including homecoming maid of honor; freshman maid, Centralette captain, and basketball cheerleader. Crawford is a Elementary Education major and plans to attend Mississippi State University. 


MARCH 3, 1999

Vashti Underwood Muse, Hinds Community College developmental instructor, has been selected to received the NADE (National Association for Developmental Education) Award for Outstanding Service to Developmental  Education Students. 


MARCH 4, 2009

Over-all-district winners at Philadelphia Public School System for 2008-2009 were chosen by a committee. The winners are; Gina Moorehead- District Parent of the Year, Jim Luke-District Teacher of the Year, and LeeAnn Fulton- District Administrator of the Year.
