SEPTEMBER 30, 1938

The Neshoba County Teacher’s Association held its first monthly meeting for the 1938-39 session at the Philadelphia High School Auditorium. Mr. Fred McKinnon, President of the 1937-38 session presiding. The association went into a business session for the election of officers. The following were elected: Superintendent, T.J. Durrett, Coldwater, President; Superintendent H.D. Hawkins, Waldo, Vice President; and Christine Drake, Philadelphia, Reporter. 




OCTOBER 1, 1948

Mrs. R.F. Hays will leave during the weekend for Tulsa, Oklahoma were she will attend the National Home Demonstration Council, which convenes in that city. Mrs. Hays goes as a delegates from the Neshoba County Council, of which she is President. One of the county’s most outstanding club women, Mrs. Hays has been actively identified with the work for sometimes and is Vice President of the Bloomo Club. This trip is sponsored by Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the County Home Demonstration Council. 



SEPTEMBER 25, 1958

Jerry Webb, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Webb, of Noxapater, is receiving the A. DeWeese Lumber Co. Forestry Scholarship award for 1958 at Mississippi State University. Webb is a 1958 graduate of Noxapater High School and was an outstanding student during his high school career. He was on the varsity football team during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.  



SEPTEMBER 26, 1968

Airman Paul R. Guthrie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Guthrie of Noxapater Mississippi, has competed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to the Air ForceTechnical Training Center at Sheppard AFB, Texas, for specialized schooling as a Communications Wiring Specialist. Airman Guthrie, a 1966 graduate of Bitburg Dependents High School, Bitburg AB, Germany, has studied at Mississippi State University. 



SEPTEMBER 28, 1978

Angela Hardy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Hardy of Philadelphia, will reign as the 1978-79 homecoming queen at East Central Junior College in Decatur. While at East Central, Miss Hardy, a Home Economics Major, has been a member of the Collegians, the choir, Fashion Squad, ECJC Players and was chosen a 1977-78 Campus Beauty. She will be crowned by Dr. Charles V. Wright, President, during halftime when they host the Eagles of Hinds Junior College.

Jeremy Woods, son of Ricky and Melinda Woods, caught this 6 1/2 pound catfish in his grandparent’s, Mr. and Mrs. Dub Woods of the Plattsburgh Community pond





SEPTEMBER 16, 1998

A Neshoba County resident has been selected along with 24 other Mississippians to participate in the Mississippi Economic Council’s 1998-99 Leadership Mississippi Program. Eric Prince, President of Prince Oil Co. of Philadelphia, was chosen from scores of applicants from throughout the state to take part in the program for “Mississippi’s most promising young leaders”.

Sigma Alpha Lambda announces that Eliza Lauderdale of Philadelphia has recently become recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda. National Leadership and Honors Organization at Mississippi State University. Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national leadership and honors organization dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement.
