MAY 6, 1938

Neshoba County Farmers had received a total of $137, 362 in soil-conservation and soil-building payments under the 1937 agricultural conservation program, T.M. Patterson, administrative officer in charge, announced by AAA Jackson. Checks have been issued to a total of 3384 farmers of the county and represented payments on 1894 work sheets out of a total of 2294 work sheets signed in the county.



MAY 7, 1948

Two Neshoba Countians will graduate from Mississippi State College. Buck Watkins, son of Mrs. Edd Watkins of the Dixon community will graduate in agronomy. Mr. Watkins is a graduate of the Dixon High School and East Central Junior College, and Aubrey Harbour, son of Mr. A.C. Harbour of the Shady Grove community, will graduate in agricultural administration. Mr. Harbour is a graduate of Shady Grove High School and East Central Junior College.



MAY 1, 1958

Anelle Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Fox of Philadelphia, will be crowned Queen of the May Day festivities at Belhaven College. Miss Fox, was elected to the honor by vote of the entire student body. She also was featured in the April 13, issue of “Dixie”, the New Orleans Time Picayune Sunday magazine supplement, in which she represented Belhaven and Jackson, in the campus cover girl contest.



MAY 2, 1968

Winners of the trophies at the annual Philadelphia Athletic Boosters Club Awards Banquet were; Dwight Tucker, sportsmanship; Mike Clark, best back; Tommy Latimer, best lineman and most valuable player; Hal Posey, most improved player.



Sandra Hicks and Gail Gray have been named Valedictorian and Salutatorian respectively of the 1968 graduating class of Philadelphia High School. Sandra, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Hicks, has maintained a scholastic average of 97.20 during her four years in high school. Gail, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie W. Gray, has maintained a scholastic average of 96.21 during her four years in high school.



MAY 4, 1978

Jennifer Donald has been named Valedictorian and Cynthia Brewer, Salutatorian, of the 1978 graduating class of Leake Academy. Miss Donald is the daughter of the late H.V. and Thelma Donald of Carthage. She plans to attend Hinds Junior College and major in pre-pharmacy. Miss Brewer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar M. Brewer of Philadelphia. She plans to attend East Central Junior College and study nursing.



MAY 4, 1988

Michael Wells, a 1986 graduate of Philadelphia High School, received the Electronic Technology Award and the Technical Student of the Year Award at East Central Junior College during awards day. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has a 3.87 grade point average. He is the son of Mac and Sarah Wells.



Jennie Vance and Jason Walker were chosen as Mr. and Miss Union Junior High School in the recent Who’s Who Election. Jennie is the daughter of Janis Vance of Union. Jason is the son of Delores and Stanley Walker, also of Union.



APRIL 22, 1998

Jill Suzanne Parker, daughter of Rachel Parker and the late James Parker, has been selected as Star Student of Brandon High School. She chose Bobby Worley as her Star Teacher. Jill scored the highest on the ACT of any other student at Brandon and she is also a National Merit Finalist.
