There may not be a city ordinance about fireworks in the city of Philadelphia, but Police Chief Julian Greer reminds residents there is a noise ordinance.

If the Police Department receives a complaint, officers will respond, Greer said.

“We want everyone to enjoy the holiday and to take precautions when using fireworks,” Greer said. “But we ask that you be respectful of others.”

Around Christmas, one resident reported: “Last night in my neighborhood it sounded like a bomb went off, scaring children and waking the elderly.”

Greer said his department has not received many complaints but added they would respond and enforce the noise ordinance if necessary.
