Leake Academy scored in every facet of the game Friday night against Hartfield Academy as the Rebels posted touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in route to a 49-21 win over the Hawks.

Senior running back Sam Wilder had two touchdown runs on offense and added a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown, his second return for a touchdown this season. Wilder also returned a kickoff 56 yards, setting up another Rebels score.

Junior Wyatt Estep later picked off a pass in the second half and raced 60 yards for a defensive pick-six completing the Rebels complete team scoring performance.

The Rebels scored first in the first quarter after both teams traded turnovers. The Rebels fumbled the ball in Hawks territory, but senior cornerback Rusty Atkinson returned the favor with an interception he returned to his own 44 yard line.

Wilder ripped off a run of 30 yards to get the ball into the Hawks side of the field and later finished the 56 yard drive off with a one-yard score, diving over the top of the Hawks defense for a 6-0 lead. Senior kicker Cameron Brown would add the first of his seven successful PAT attempts and the Rebels would take a 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing drive, the Hawks would again turn the ball over to the stingy Rebels defense via a fumble at their own 33 yard line. The Rebels could not capitalize, failing to get a first down on four plays, and the Hawks took over.

The Hawks would go three and out on their next series, setting up Wilder's second punt return for a touchdown on the season. Wilder took the ball at his own 40, broke a tackle and powered his way home from 60 yards out and a 14-0 Rebel lead.

Another three and out by the Hawks would give the Rebels excellent field position at Hawks 45. Then the Rebels would make a mistake of their own, fumbling the ball after a pass completion at the Hawks 33 yard line. This resulted in a scoop and score 67-yard touchdown run, cutting the Rebel advantage 14-7.

The Rebels would dominate the rest of the first half starting with their next possession. Wilder again set up the scoring drive as he took the Hawks kickoff 56 yards to the Hawks 29 yard line. Six plays later, Wilder finished the drive from two-yards out for a 21-7 Rebel lead.

Later, Atkinson snagged his second interception at the Hawks' 30-yard line. Rebel quarterback Will-Lawson Harkins found tight end Matt Clair for a six-yard touchdown pass to put the Rebels up 28-7 at the end of the half.

In the opening drive of the second half, Wilder would again find a hole in the Hawks defense for a 45-yard run to the Hawks' 20-yard line, setting another score and a 35-7 Rebel lead.

Estep would add a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown and junior running back Gunner Pickens would add a 54-yard rushing touchdown as the Rebels built an insurmountable 49-14 lead at the 5:12 mark in the 3rd quarter, before closing out the game at 49-21.

Rebel head coach Brian Pickens said that the team had a great week of practice and the performance showed on the field. He also noted that the defense played extremely well.

"They take a lot of pride in what we do," Pickens said of his defense. "They take a lot of pride in being physical and we want to continue to do that as the season goes along."

Next up for the Rebels will be East Rankin Academy in an away contest at Pelahatchie. The Patriots are 1-2 on the season.
