The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets defeated Cleveland Central 47-46 Monday night and have advanced to the championship game of the Region 3-5A basketball tournament which is being held at Canton High School.

The Lady Rockets will play the winner between Holmes County and Canton High, which will be held Tuesday. The girls championship game is set for 7 p.m. Friday.

The Neshoba Central boys lost 55-51 to Cleveland in their first round game. They will play in the consolation game Friday against the loser between Holmes County Central and Canton High.

End of regular season

The Neshoba Central teams closed out their 2019-2020 regular season Friday night by sweeping Cleveland Central. The Lady Rockets won their game 43-29 while the Rockets won out 78-59.



The Lady Rockets led 15-10 after the first quarter. Neshoba Central outpointed the Lady Wolves 10-7 in the second quarter and led 25-17 at the half. Neshoba Central would have a 17-12 scoring edge in the second half and held on for the win.

Veronica Williams led the Lady Rockets with 13 points while Hama’ya Fielder scored 10.

The Rockets went up 35-21 at the half. They outscored the Wolves 24-17 in the third quarter and carried a 59-39 lead into the final quarter. The Wolves had a 21-19 scoring edge in the fourth quarter but Neshoba held on for the win.

Bryceton Spencer and Coby McMillan both scored 18 points to lead the Rockets while Griffin Gentry and Jacob McMillan both scored 11 points.
