Two Philadelphia Public School District teachers were involved in a motor vehicle accident with a Lauderdale County School bus Monday about 3:50 p.m., school officials said in a press release.
The names of the teachers are being withheld until notification of their family.
"The two teachers were transported to two local hospitals in Meridian," the release said. "Both passengers in the car had to be extricated from their vehicle by first response emergency personnel. Students were evacuated through the alternate exits as the bus remained on its side.
"Philadelphia Superintendent of Education Terry Larabee has spoken with Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun at the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and according to Calhoun there were 13 students on the Lauderdale County bus.
"Both the teachers from Philadelphia Public Schools and several students traveling in the Lauderdale County School bus were transported to local hospitals. According to Calhoun, at this time, the teachers and several of the students involved have suffered non-life threatening injuries. "
Dr. Larabee asked that everyone please pray for those injured.
