Fatality confirmed in Kemper tornado

Kemper County Sheriff James Moore has confirmed at least one fatality in a tornado that touched down near the lignite power plant on Highway 493.
This structure on Highway 493 in Kemper County was damaged in the tornado. It is about five miles north of the coal plant.
David Cox, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service of Jackson, said they had confirmation through radar of a tornado touching down in Kemper County on Highway 493.
Moore said there were multiple injures from the tornado.
Jeff Shepard, Mississippi Power spokesman, said the lignite power plant did not take a direct hit or sustain any significant damage.
"The health and safety of our employees and partners is Mississippi Power's top priority," said Jeff Shepard, Mississippi Power spokesman.
"Mississippi Power's Kemper County energy facility was not impacted by today's weather event in Kemper County. As a result of following company severe weather procedures, only essential personnel reported to the plant site today. They are all accounted for and there are no reports of injuries. We will continue to assess the situation.,"
The storm system continued traveling toward Noxubee County with another touchdown reported near Macon.
